My
electroacoustic ensemble, Quasimodal, will be performing a few shows
this summer.
The first was at Arraymusic, as part of the Leftover Daylight series
run by
Joe Sorbara. It went really well, and the grand piano was grand!
This Friday, we'll
be performing outdoors in Cumberland Park, Toronto. A 'happy
hour' gig,
a great way to close a busy day.

karmafarm
'out of the system' released

Finally,
the cat is out of the bag. The CD release went very well, despite
a few technical scares, and a great turnout made this an enjoyable
evening. I was elated, and thrilled to see many of my friends
there in support. It was also just great to see faces that I
hadn't seen in some time.
Special thanks go to my sister Brenda, visiting from Edmonton, who was
there thru thick and thin, and who patiently stood aside to let me run
amok through the day. She's now witnessed two of the karmafarm
performances at the Ping.
I can't forget a two-week outing to Berlin Germany...I was thrilled to be performing with Rob Hoare, current international Ping alumnus and with Bob Rutman, an instrument designer and performer who astounded all with his magnificent Bow Chime (steel, steel, and more steel)...We performed at the Dresden Musikfest as well as in a Russian disco in Berlin...The most massive buildings in the world are to be found in Berlin, a city defined by architecture in all its glory...
karmafarm was the featured guest at The Ambient Ping on Tuesday, April 4th...The Nord Modular figured heavily in this show, as did the newly acquired Roland JP8000...Marvelous video accompaniment was provided by CBG, a long time associate of mine...And we had a full house!
...Cellist Cheryl Ockrant and myself held court at the Planet of the Loops on Tuesday, April 11th...In addition to my modest complement of synths, I was able to spend time applying treatments to Cheryl's intriguing cello work...All in all, a satisfying evening, and once again, a full house.
...June 13th...Cheryl Ockrant and me again, only now with the able support of the dreamSTATE boys...I parked myself at a table in the audience, and twiddled knobs by the light of a candle or two...Cheryl provided the sounds, and I provided the treatments...
...July 25th...A Clockwork Drone is an SRO success...After a brief flirting with disaster (damned video card!), the three most Nordular guys in Toronto (dreamSTATE and karmafarm) set about sequencing and synchronizing a million different synth lines...The video magic was handled by CBG (Calvin Grant), and according to the audience (on stage, we saw very little), the visuals were superb...Let's do it again sometime...
...A Special Event, a private party in a marvelous warehouse space near King and Dufferin, courtesy of Joan Zinger...The Salons of Europe never saw nuthin' like this!...This is thoroughly modern chamber music...
...A Saturday Sep 9th repeat of the very successful Ambient Party last month, hosted again by Joan Zinger in her excellent studio space...A new lineup of artists, rarely seen at the Ping...Also, a possible acoustic set from Wally Jericho, Cheryl Ockrant, and myself on piano (!)...
